Notes on contributors

Diane J. Thompson

In this article Diane J. Thompson of the Centre for Academic Development at Deakin University, Australia, draws on her research in audioteleconferencing to ask what is gained and lost, and by whom. While remaining convinced of the importance of audioteleconferencing in providing access and opportunities for interaction, she is sharply critical of assumptions that these benefits are automatically bestowed. In conclusion, the author argues both for greater clarity about what happens in audioteleconferencing, and greater training for students and tutors in its use.
