Abstract

I was asked to write a commentary to the paper ‘Hierarchical discourse therapy :a method for the mild patient’ by Claire Penn, Dilys Jones, and Victoria Joffe, to appear in the Clinical Forum of this journal. There is a continued need for new treatment programmes and for efficacy data on aphasia therapy, and I was pleased to prepare a commentary. The need for treatment programmes relative to discourse abilities is certainly well stated in the paper. Moreover, such a need extends not only to the mild patient but to all neurologically impaired persons who have linguistically or cognitively based communication disorders.
