Pages 197-199 | Published online: 19 Aug 2006

Notes

1 GELLM is funded by a core European Social Fund grant to Sue Yeandle and her team based at the Centre for Social Inclusion, Sheffield Hallam University. The grant is supplemented with additional funds and resources provided by a range of partner agencies, notably the Equal Opportunities Commission, the TUC, and 12 English local authorities. The GELLM output comprises: • statistical Gender Profiles of the local labour markets of each participating local authority (Buckner et al ., Citation2005), available at www.shu.ac.uk/csi/research • six Local Research Studies, each involving between four and six of the project's local authority partners: Working Below Potential: Women and Part-Time Work, led by Linda Grant and part-funded by the EOC (Grant et al ., Citation2005) Building Bridges to Work: Gender, Local Labour Markets and Neighbourhood Projects, led by Linda Grant; Enhancing Employment Opportunities for Women from Black and Minority Ethnic Groups led by Bernadette Stiell; Career Development in the Local Authority Sector in England: Opportunities and Constraints led by Cinnamon Bennett; Women's Poverty and Economic Disadvantage: the Impact of Regeneration Initiatives and Developments led by Karen Escott; Local Challenges in Meeting Demand for Domiciliary Care led by Sue Yeandle. Reports of these studies will be published in 2006.

2 The Equalities Bill, before Parliament in 2005–6, includes a new statutory obligation on public sector bodies to promote gender equality. The way this should operate is being considered as part of the Equalities Review, led by Sir Trevor Phillips, and due to report to the Prime Minister in summer 2006.
