1 These are that, by 2006, women will account for 40% of customers using government sponsored business support services; women-owned businesses will increase to 18–20% of the UK total; and that the number of women from ethnic minority communities receiving business support assistance will be proportional to their representation in the relevant local/regional population.

2 These statutory duties are: to further economic development and regeneration; to promote business efficiency, investment and competitiveness; to promote employment; to enhance development and application of skills relevant to employment; and to contribute to sustainable development.

7 Better Deal for Business (BD4B) has been developed by all the main regional partners (Yorkshire Forward, the Learning and Skills Councils LSC's and Business Link Operators, the SBS and Government Office) and is a framework for organisations working to deliver publicly funded support to businesses. The BD4B framework is being adopted in the spirit of continuous improvement, by the partners working together.
