IDENTIFICATION OF DIATOMS IN NEOLITHIC POTTERY

Abstract

When investigating thin sections of 250 pottery sherds from a Middle Neolithic Pitted Ware site at Masmo, Eastern Sweden, only one sherd contained diatoms. Analysis of the dissolved test sherd showed freshwater diatoms possibly of local origin.
