Abstract
Amphora copulata (Kütz.) Schoeman & Archibald is apparently the correct name for the taxon previously better known as A. ovalis var. libyca (Ehrenb.) C1. The species has been re-investigated from original material of Kützing and from fresh material collected in the U.K., in order to define its ultrastructural characteristics, especially in relation to Amphora ovalis. Forms of the species have been found and these are briefly described.
