Abstract
The morphology of Navicula genustriata Hustedt was studied using LM, SEM and TEM and resulted in an amended description. Its taxonomie affinities are discussed and a close relationship to Pinnularia is suggested. The wide range of valve variability is described both in qualitative and in quantitative terms. Some notes on the distribution of the species and the ecology of recent and fossil populations are also given.
