Abstract
Examination of diatom material from 127 localities in Norfolk, England, has shown that Cyclo-stephanos dubius is confined mainly to lakes (defined as bodies of still water having one horizontal dimension over 200 m). The species was not found in marine or brackish samples and there is no evidence that it is halophilic. A limited number of chemical parameters were considered. They suggest that Cyclostephanos dubius is inhibited by waters of high alkalinity.
