INFLUENCE OF CURRENT VELOCITY ON DIATOMS OF A SMALL SOFTWATER STREAM

Pages 387-396 | Published online: 31 Oct 2011

Abstract

Reactions to current velocity by the dominant diatom taxa of a small, softwater stream were investigated in an experimental channel placed in the stream. 10 out of 13 taxa reacted to the different current velocities (0.5–50 cm/sec). Similarity indices and values for diversity and evenness within the diatom community are presented.
