Abstract
The type material of Cyclotella ocellata Pantocsek, C. notata Loseva and Discoplea comta Ehrenberg (described from material from Hassan Kaleh, Turkey) have been investigated. The similarities and differences between these species are illustrated and also discussed in connection with C. kuetzingiana var. planetophora Fricke. C. notata and C. ocellata are very distinct; they also differ from Discoplea comta, for which a new name, Cyclotella kurdica Håkansson, is given.
