Abstract
The morphology, systematics and ecology of a new centric diatom, Cyclotella pseudocomensis nov. sp., are presented. The morphological variation and ultrastructure from initial to the smallest cells are described as revealed by light and scanning electron microscopy. This new species is characterized by the transverse undulation, the smooth to colliculate structure of the central area of the valve face, the one to two valve face fultoportulae and the mantle fultoportulae on recessed costae. Differences to similar taxa in the genus Cyclotella are discussed. The species is found during spring to summer in the plankton of lakes in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, and two annual cycles of cell number, cell size, and cell volumes are shown.
Die Morphologie, Systematik und Ökologie einer neuen zentrischen Diatomee Cyclotella pseudocomensis nov. sp. wird vorgestellt. Die Variabilität der Ultrastruktur von der Initialzelle bis zur kleinsten Schale, wie sie im Licht- und Rasterelektronenmikroskop erscheint, wird beschrieben. Diese neue Art ist charakterisiert durch folgende Merkmale: Das Mittelfeld der Schale ist transversal unduliert und besitzt eine glatte bis colliculate Struktur, sowie ein bis zwei Fultoportulae. Die marginalen Fultoportulae befinden sich auf Rippen, welche in die Schalenfläche eingesenkt sind. Alle Fultoportulae besitzen zwei Satellitenkörper.
Die Art wurde vom Frühjahr bis Sommer im Plankton von Seen in Brandenburg und Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Deutschland, gefunden. Zwei Jahresgänge der Zellzahlen, der Zellgröße und des Zellvolumens werden mitgeteilt. Unterschiede zu ähnlichen Arten des Genus Cyclotella werden diskutiert.
