Abstract
Thalassiosira echinata Semina is described from the equatorial Pacific (0°, 2°, 4°N 133°W). The valve of this nanoplanktonic diatom is distinguished by a ring of many long external tubes belonging to both occluded processes and two rimoportulae. Internally, the central fultoportula has five satellite pores. The new species is compared to T. simonsenii Hasle et G. Fryx. and other Thalassiosira spp. with two rimoportulae or with occluded processes.
