Abstract
Campylodiscus levanderi was described by Hustedt in 1925 without a full diagnosis. Up to now this exceedingly rare taxon has been considered to be a doubtful species because of confusing descriptions. In this paper a detailed description of the valve morphology and SEM-micrographs are presented based on new findings in late pleistocene deposits on Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, which agree entirely with the type-specimens. It is shown that C. levanderi is a distinctive species which shares most of the characteristics of the group “Robustae” within the genus Surirella.
