Abstract
An investigation of a diatom identified as Opephora marina (Gregory) Petit has been carried out by light and scanning electron microscopy to clarify the generic position of the species. Slides from the Greville collections stored at the Natural History Museum, London which contain mounts of Gregory's original material have been examined. Although a new circumscription of die genus Opephora was made by Round et al. (1990), the specimens studied are still fitting into the generic description.
