Abstract
In this paper the morphology of 10 seldom reported and insufficiently known diatoms from the old catch-all genus Navicula (excl. Navicula sensu stricto) are described based on LM and, in particular, SEM investigations. For most of them SEM micrographs are presented for the first time. It is shown that some of these diatoms belong to established genera, i.e. Diadesmis aerophila, Craticula submolesta, Hippodonta umbilicatissima, Muelleria gibberula whereas others need further investigation and discussion before an appropriate generic allocation is possible, i.e. Navicula brockmannii, Navicula sanctae-crucis. The following new combinations are proposed: Craticula citrus (Krasske) comb. nov. and Craticula dissociata (Reichardt) comb, nov., Sellaphora riojae (Cleve) comb. nov. and Sellaphora subdeliberata (Manguin) comb. nov. and Dickieia soodensis (Krasske) comb. nov.
