The tube-dwelling diatom Nitzschia martiana (C.A. Agardh) Van Heurck and the associated cohabitant Navicula ramosissima (C.A. Agardh) Cleve are reported from a shallow water pool at Palm Beach, north of Port Edward, Natal, South Africa. This is the first report of N. martiana from the African continent and South Africa.
