DIATOM ASSEMBLAGES FROM TWO MANGROVE TIDAL FLATS IN PENINSULAR MALAYSIA

Abstract

Diatom assemblages from two mangrove tidal flats in Peninsular Malaysia are examined. In each site, diatom zones across a mudflat/mangrove transect have been clearly defined using Cluster Analysis. Further analysis using Principle Component Analysis reveals three diatom associations which are closely related to environmental variables such as ground altitudes (or duration of daily tidal inundation) and sediment substrate types.
