Abstract

The taxa belonging earlier to the diatom genus Melosira from slides in the Granow collection at the Natural History Museum in Vienna, were investigated using the light microscope (LM). Raw material related to several slides were also found and observed using the scanning electron microscope (SEM). According to valve morphology some were found to belong to other taxa and so several new combinations are given. This contribution deals with taxa that are mostly neglected in contemporary literature and also brings some old names back into general use. Several Aulacoseira taxa are presented here showing more valve pattern variability therefore emending LM and SEM-pictures presented by other authors.
