Abstract

A simple method for in situ immunofluorescent detection of proteins in whole, fixed diatoms is described. The method was successfully applied both to lightly and heavily silicified pennate and centric species. This method allows for the detection of both nuclear and cytoplasmic proteins and so should be of value in studies of cell biology, physiology, and genetics of diatoms.
