I myself have argued at length for a distinction in three phases similar to Jarvie’s, not only regarding the development of Popper’s theory of knowledge (Buzzoni 1982 and 1987), but also regarding the development of his thought on the social sciences (Buzzoni 1980) and history (Buzzoni 1981). Today, after the publication of very important works on the early Popper (such as Berkson and Wettersten 1984; Wettersten 1985 and 1992; Hacohen 2000), I would of course add a precritical period.
