DO YOUR CUES CONFUSE STUDENTS?

A legitimate source of student confusion about reading and word recognition appears to be the variety and rapid pacing of teacher prompts and cues during oral reading activities. Examples of teacher cueing behaviors that confuse students are presented and several techniques for analyzing and improving teacher prompts and cues are presented. The article points out how student understanding as well as student confusion are both functions of teacher behavior.
