²It is ironic that Freud's early followers, with all of their insistence on the importance of remembering, did not directly address the issue of the Holocaust. Many of the post-Freudian early analysts were Jews, who themselves had lost family members to the Nazis and had to flee their homeland. Yet there was a striking absence of discussion about their trauma in their theoretical writing.
