Pages 264-274 | Published online: 15 Jul 2010

Acknowledgments

This article is dedicated to the memory of my parents and grandparents. I am using stories told to me by my mother, as I remember them, while remembering the adage that “this is true, whether or not it really happened.” I would also like to express my gratitude to Melissa Elliott, MSN, for her thoughtful review and editing recommendations.

Notes

1There are many traditions that make up a seder, but often a seder is the structured telling of the story of the Hebrew exodus from slavery. Often, families and friends gather to tell and discuss the story using a text called a Haggadah. The sages tell us to also invite people who would not otherwise attend a seder. A festive meal is generally served.
