Abstract

Aims: To quantitatively investigate the residents’ performed activities and the level of changes in these that took place after admission to a long-term care facility (LTCF) considering contextual factors. Methods: Twelve residents who were admitted for the first time to a LTCF were recruited and assessed in terms of their current and previous activities. Results: The number of current activities in the LTCF was considerably decreased compared to that of performed activities in their homes. Additionally, there was a big difference among residents in the number of activities and the retained activities. Conclusions: The total numbers of residents’ activities clearly decreased following new admission. The LTCF made it difficult for the residents to reflect their individual differences in terms of physical and cognitive functions in their daily activities. The LTCF led to occupational deprivation of the residents.
