Abstract
Flathead catfish (Pylodictus olivarus) were stocked at 9.8 fish/ha (26.9 kg/ha) in 1997 through 1999 in Canton Lake, a 101-ha reservoir in Fulton Co., Illinois. Five hundred fourteen flathead catfish were recaptured and stomach contents determined. Flathead catfish selected larger (170+mm) gizzard shad over other available forage. Consumption rates of gizzard shad were lower for larger (600+mm) catfish when compared to smaller (400–600 mm) ones. Low predation of centrarchids was observed, while no predation was observed on channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) or largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides).
