Abstract

The circular corrugated waveguides are useful as slow-wave circuits in traveling-wave tube amplifiers, linear accelerators, and backward-wave oscillators. The study of propagation characteristic of TM waves in circular corrugated waveguides is important for applications such as those above and is the focus of this paper. The propagation characteristics are computed using the coupled integral equation technique (CIET). Both infinitesimally thin irises and thick irises are analyzed. The results for the infinitesimally thin irises are compared with those published in the open literature, where the mode matching technique was used. The results for the thick irises computed using CIET are validated using the three-dimensional electromagnetic (EM) simulators based on finite element method (FEM) and finite integration technique (FIT).
