Moving a General Reference Course Online: Issues and Considerations

Pages 12-23 | Published online: 16 Dec 2011

Abstract

Migrating courses from a face-to-face to an online format is increasingly common as entire academic programs make the leap to online education to better accommodate distance learners. Redesigning a general reference course to make it appropriate for the online learning environment requires examining assignments, developing discussion boards, facilitating group work, and making lectures accessible to students. Student feedback is one way to gauge the success of a redesigned course and continue to make improvements.
