Pages 181-219 | Published online: 02 Jul 2013

Abstract

Embedded librarianship, or academic librarian involvement in the online learning environment, deserves recognition as a transformative tradition in reference librarianship. This article discusses the evolution of the efforts of librarians at Everglades University to provide library assistance to students in the eCollege environment over a 12-year period. A retrospective look in conjunction with a thorough review of recent embedded librarianship practices may refine the embedded librarian protocols elsewhere and provide guidance to librarians who are embarking on an embedded adventure. Marketing the embedded services, assessment measures, lessons learned, and considerations for the future are also discussed.
