Mathematical approaches to environmental chemistry

Evaluation and exploration, a problem-oriented approach

ABSTRACT

Evaluations of objects, say chemicals, with respect to attributes, e.g. parameters, are considered. It is shown how a reduced set of implications between sets of attributes can be obtained from which each implication between sets of the attributes can be derived, and this is what we call the exploration of the evaluation. Moreover, we point to the fact that an evaluation over a lattice allows to choose between various set theories and corresponding logics, in a problem-oriented way. In our paradigmatic example, an evaluation of 18 refrigerants over the lattice is analyzed and it is shown how implications between their environmental properties and structures can be computed using free software.
