Metabolic levels in eel blood after lindane treatment

Pages 329-333 | Published online: 19 Sep 2008

Eels (A. anguilla) were exposed to a subletal lindane concentration (1/2LC50–96h = 0.335 ppm). Blood samples were taken after various periods (0–96 hr) of exposure. Serum concentrations of glucose, lactate, cholesterol and total lipids were determined.

Glucose levels increased significantly after 6 h treatment with respect to the control values. Lactate levels increased significantly too, but after 12 h treatment. Cholesterol values decreased after 6h treatment and continued decreasing gradually until 72 h treatment. Total lipids increased after 6h treatment but these values decreased between 12 and 96 h. The results are produced by the pesticide and related responses of the fish.
