Abstract
The analysis of 16 PAH compounds in six commercial tar‐shampoos and one tar‐ointment was investigated. The constituents of selectively enriched extracts, further purified and fractionated by a LC‐clean‐up method, were analyzed by GC‐FID. Their presence was further confirmed by reversed phase HPLC‐UV and GC‐MS. In four samples we found elevated concentrations of tetracyclic or higher condensed PAHs. Three of those samples contained more than 250 μg g‐1 of compounds which induced cancer in animal experiments.
