Lorenz–Mie Scattering by Spheres: Some Newly Recognized Phenomena

Pages 275-291 | Received 08 Mar 1982, Published online: 05 Jun 2007

Abstract

The following new phenomena recently brought to light by the Lorenz–Mie theory of scattering of electromagnetic radiation by spheres are reviewed: invisible particles, negative absorption, photophoresis, anisotropic photoelectron emission, Raman and fluorescent scattering by molecules embedded in dielectric spheres, enhanced Raman scattering by molecules adsorbed on colloidal spheres, and absorption and luminescence of dye coated spheres.
