Abstract
This paper examines the drag force felt by relatively large (250 micron) MgF2 particles moving inside the exhaust of a magnesium-teflon flare burned at reduced pressure (0.02 atm). It is shown that the well-known Stokes formula for the drag on a spherical particle must be modified to take into account the MgF2 particles' elevated temperature with respect to their hot-gas environment.
