Rate of Unipolar Charging of Ultrafine Thin Platelets

Abstract

A calculational procedure for determining the rate of unipolar, diffusional charging of platelets was developed. The procedure was similar to the method based on the minimum flux criterion for ultrafine spherical aerosols, but treated the platelet as an oblate spheroid. Simulations suggest that the platelets are charged more rapidly than spherical particles of the same volume.
