Abstract
Case consultation is an essential aspect of a school psychologist's role. This discussion offers a review and differentiation of two concepts used in Caplan's (1964, 1970) classic model of mental health consultation: transference and theme interference. Both result in a lack of objectivity on the part of a consultee. In addition, some cases may occur in which the consultee's lack of objectivity stems from an interaction of these processes. Interventions appropriate for each phenomenon are reviewed along with suggestions for identifying and treating their interaction.
