Using the Child Behavior Checklist and Related Instruments in School-Based Assessment of Children

Pages 479-494 | Published online: 26 Dec 2019

Abstract

This article describes a set of four standardized rating scales developed by Achenbach and Edelbrock (1983): the Child Behavior Checklist, the Teacher Report Form, the Direct Observation Form, and the Youth Self Report. Current information on the reliability and validity of the checklists is summarized along with descriptions of their empirically-derived syndromes of behavior problems. Several case studies are presented to illustrate the use and value of the checklists in school-based assessment of children.
