Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of ethnic minority group members in school psychology training programs in the United States. A survey was sent to 201 school psychology programs of which 162 (80.6%) responded. The survey requested information about a number of areas related to ethnic minority involvement in school psychology training. Analysis of the data revealed that 11.5% of the students were minority group members. Most of the minority students were enrolled in masters degree programs and a relatively small number received financial assistance. Additional information regarding minority designated internships, minority faculty, specific recruitment approaches, and special challenges encountered in training minority school psychology students was also discussed. Results suggest that more intensive efforts are needed to attract minorities into the field of school psychology.
