Job Satisfaction Among Practicing School Psychologists Revisited

Abstract

This study attempted to replicate a study by Anderson et al. (1984) in order to determine whether the results of that national study could be replicated in an individual state, and to determine the degree to which the results of Anderson et al. could be applied to all National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) affiliated and non-affiliated school psychologists nationally (Anderson et al. included only NASP members in its sample). The job satisfaction of 267 Virginia school psychologists was analyzed using methodology similar to that employed by Anderson et al. Results of the current study paralleled those found by Anderson et al.; however, professional organizational affiliation was found to be positively and significantly correlated with job satisfaction. It was concluded that Anderson et al.'s results may slightly overestimate the level of job satisfaction being experienced by school psychologists nationally.
