Abstract
This article describes in both theoretical and practical terms a parent‐focused, home‐based early intervention program known as HIPPY‐the Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters. By being explicit about the program's basic philosophy and elaborating on programmatic tensions as it gains a national scope and presence, the article presents the program in some detail and offers an insider's view into a few inherent tensions and issues associated with home visiting programs.
