Notes

Afro‐Cuban Jazz is a musical phenomenon that made a tremendous inroad into New York City in the late 1930s and 1940s and underwent several modifications during the course of three decades. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, it was generally rumored that this music was rapidly fading from view. The authors of this article argue that current research shows that Salsa/Afro‐Cuban Jazz has retained a great deal of its original vitality and is still alive in N.Y.C.
