Abstract
Work on the taxonomy of New Zealand Ptiliidae is brought together. Fifty-six species are here recognised from the subregion (i.e., Kermadecs, Chathams, and subantarctic islands, but excluding the more northerly Pacific islands), of which 33 are new to science. Thirteen genera are now known: Kuschelidium n.gen., Nellosana n.gen., Ptenidium, Notoptenidium n.gen., Ptenidotonium n.gen., Oligella, Actidium, Dipentium, Cissidium, Ptinella, Ptiliodes, Nephanes, and Acrotrichis. Each genus and new species is described and figured, and keys to genera and species are given, together with details of useful study techniques and a checklist of taxa.
