Abstract

Scolecolepides freemani n. sp. (Polychaeta: Spionidae) is described from some inland waters of South Island, New Zealand. It is notable for its large size and for completely lacking hooded hooks. It is confined to fresh or brackish waters and is found at lower salinities than the previously described New Zealand species, S. benhami.
