Pages 281-286 | Received 18 Aug 1997, Accepted 17 Oct 1997, Published online: 30 Mar 2010

The rediscovery of the holotype of Echinus elevatus Hutton 1872, and living material of this species in northern New Zealand, indicates it to be a species of Amblypneustes Agassiz, of which the Australian species A pachistus H L Clark 1912, is a synonym There is no evidence for the presence of Holopneustes inflatus Lutken 1872 in New Zealand waters The generic name Kermabrissoides is proposed for Acanthotrema Baker & Rowe 1990 (preoccupied)
