Abstract
A questionnaire was sent out to randomly chosen farmers requesting information on costs of fly strike and the methods used to control it. The prevalence for the North Island was 1.7% and for the South Island 0.7%. It is estimated that 36% of farmers with 200 or more sheep treated their flocks specifically for fly strike. The annual cost for 1973–74 that farmers attributed to fly strike alone was $1.7 million.
