Abstract
Early lactation management practices were evaluated in 3 identical-twin experiments. The treatments consisted of machine milking and combinations of machine milking and suckling. Total productions are compared with those achieved by twin mates which retained their calves for 4–7 days post calving and were machine milked once daily during this period. Average total lactation gains of 13, 5, and 4.5% in milk were recorded. The results of a post calving management survey carried out in 1978 are given.
