Slug control in direct-drilled maize

Abstract

Four methods of slug control were examined in a direct-drilled maize crop. Broadcasting of methiocarb and metaldehyde baits at sowing gave similar levels of slug control, and were more effective than drilling methiocarb baits or coating seed with methiocarb. No molluscicide gave satisfactory slug control. Seed coated with methiocarb was phytotoxic.
