Abstract
The acute oral toxicity of brodifacoum to sheep was examined in a trial using 40 sheep. Mortalities of 0, 12.5, 37.5, 50, and 25% resulted from doses of 1.56, 3.13, 6.25, 12.5, and 25.0 mg kg-1 respectively. The low mortality at 25 mg kg-1 was attributed to precipitation of insoluble brodifacoum in the sheep's alimentary canal. An LD50 of 11 mg kg-1 or lower, derived from dosing at 1.56–12.5 mg kg-1, is considered a better estimate than the previously reported minimum of 25 mg kg-1.
