Abstract

A trial conducted on a Manawatu fine sandy loam examined the effect of sowing rates (20,40, and 60 kg/ha) and seed treatment (unhulled v. dehulled seed) on dry matter and seed production of sulla (Hedysarum coronarium L.). There was no significant advantage either in using dehulled seed or in increasing sowing rates above 20 kg/ha. Second year mean seed yield (577 kg/ha) was significantly higher than that produced in the first year (147 kg/ha). Dry matter yields in the first and second years were 15.4 and 12.7 t/ha respectively.
