Abstract
The methods for pre-basic seed production of herbage cultivars outlined in the paper result from the experience of multiplying 23 species comprising 37 ‘Grasslands’ cultivars and selections. Factors discussed include paddock history, isolation, sowing methods, row spacing, seeding rates, management, roguing, pollination, harvesting, post-harvest management of the crop, hygiene, seed processing and cleaning, seed storage, postharvest quality control, equipment, manpower required, and multiplication rates.
