ABSTRACT

The influence of Al2O3/TiO2/Na2O component in steelmaking slag on the corrosion rate and mechanism of MgO refractories is significant for promoting the development of non-fluorine fluxes in steelmaking processes. In this study, static method was used to analyze the effects of Al2O3/TiO2/Na2O components on the corrosion rate of MgO refractory, which was characterized by measuring the MgO content in the final slag after the same reaction time. The results showed the corrosion rate of the MgO refractory was controlled by the diffusion of FetO in the slag to the crucible and the chemical reaction of MgO with FetO. When the amount of each oxide was less than 15%, the ability of the slags to corrode the MgO refractory material were as follows: Na2O <original slag < ATN < Al2O3 < TiO2.
